Dedicated to the memory of Zion Lutheran Church, and their forefathers who, through their faith in God their Saviour, had the courage and stanima to pull up their roots, leave family and loved ones behind, and start a new life across the ocean in a new and strange land in Northern Ontario, Canada. In August 2008, Zion Lutheran Church held its last church service. I was blessed to be given a most generous gift - the Berlin reed organ that the church used for almost 100 years. The church building and congregation does not exist anymore, but the old pump organ from the church (after a serious restoration) sings on, and will for many years to come.
Trust is on the decline, and we need to rebuild it. That's a commonly heard suggestion for making a better world ... but, says philosopher Onora O'Neill, we don't really understand what we're suggesting. She flips the question, showing us that our three most common ideas about trust are actually misdirected. (Filmed at TEDxHousesofParliament.) What is the value of trust in relationships and interactions? Dan Ariely will shed some light on the ways we think about and behave in situations with varying degress of trust among people. Despite our intentions, why do we so often fail to act in our own best interest? Why do we promise to skip the chocolate cake, only to find ourselves drooling our way into temptation when the dessert tray rolls around? Why do we overvalue things that we’ve worked to put together? What are the forces that influence our behavior? Dan Ariely, James B. Duke Professor of Psychology & Behavioral Economics at Duke University, is dedicated to answering these questions and others in order to help people live more sensible – if not rational – lives. His interests span a wide range of behaviors, and his sometime...

We’re given very little guidance on how to choose our partners and tend to leave it to that mysterious force we know as ‘instinct’. However, it truly pays to be a little more rational in this area and work out how our instincts operate and why they push us towards some people and away from others. The Romantic answer is that our instincts naturally guide us to individuals who are kind and good for us. Love is a sort of ecstasy that descends when we feel ourselves in the presence of a benign and nourishing soul, who will answer...
Yo, Check out this high voltage, I got the AC-DC
To shock emcees and leave them whining like C-C
So B-B, on the lookout, I'm live wire
You can't handle me, gzzz gzzz ['cause 'cause], I start fires
Crossing my path, don't make me laugh, it ain't worth it
Caught a nurses on my verses blowing all your circuits
Peep the current, cause what I bring to the mic, is like
Benjamin Franklin with a string and a kite
Electrocute emcees who battle weak- wait awhile
My flow is like death row- have a seat
Every sentenced executed every time I said a verse
My frequencies tipped your measurements, we're in megahertz [mega hurts]
Even with rubber gloves you still couldn't touch it
Make sure you're grounded when I'm, bzzz bzzz, buss' it
You catch a heart attack, I take the headphones off my ear
Put them on his chest and tell the room to stand clear
This is how I operate, you don't know the half
I'm half-freestyle innovator, half power generator
Got a short fuse when it comes to whack emcees
I smack the taste out their mouth, like a nine-volt battery
I strike with a thunderbolt's accuracy
Zig, zag, zig through the crowd hit the tallest kid in the back of me
Electromagnetic draw the crowd with my polarity
